You can now access job role profiles for a number of professions within the Stroke Career Pathway.
Role profiles will aid the development of stroke-specific education and training by detailing the level of knowledge, skills and experience required for each profession, allied to the Elements of Care as defined in the Stroke-Specific Education Framework.

3. Nurses, bands 5-8
4. GP
These job role profiles are from a project that has been undertaken with an aim to map different staff roles against the Stroke-Specific Education Framework. The roles that have been mapped so far are for staff who work exclusively with people affected by stroke (two roles) and for staff who may come into contact with people affected by stroke (two roles). The reason for developing these profiles is to help staff identify the knowledge and skills that they should posses given their current role and also the knowledge and skills that they would need if they want to progress. Currently, the job role profiles completed are those for nurses (bands 5 to 8), therapy assistants (bands 2 and 4), care home workers and GPs. Further role profiles will be developed on an ongoing basis.
The job role profiles have been developed through work with a number of a task groups that have had representation from people who deliver care across the stroke pathway. The groups have considered for each item within each of the 16 Elements of Care in the SSEF the minimum level of ‘knowledge and understanding’ and ‘skills and abilities’ that someone delivering stroke care should posses (these elements are based on the Quality Markers in the English National Stroke Strategy). There have been group and one-to-one discussions around the job role profiles, which have resulted in a consensus job role profile.
The job role profiles displayed should be considered the minimum level that staff should have the knowledge or the skill, and consideration of individual staff/service requirements will be required to adjust/uplift the levels to need. Also, the levels suggested will be re-evaluated periodically and updated if necessary. People viewing the job role profiles may like to provide feedback on the levels or contribute to the development of new profiles. Anyone wishing to feedback should email ukfst@stroke.org.uk and enter ‘SSEF role profiles’ in the subject line.
